Triumph 5TA Speed Twin Parts & Spares
The 5TA carried the Speed Twin name onto Triumph’s unit-construction 500, a smaller and more compact machine than the pre-unit 5T that came before it. Early examples wore the full rear enclosure known as the bathtub, which many owners removed over the years and restorers now want back.
Obsolete Bike Parts stocks engine, gasket and frame parts for the 5TA. Many are shared with the Tiger 100 and the 350cc 3TA, and our listings name every model a part will fit, so you can see at once whether a Tiger 100 part will do.
5TA or 5T?
Triumph used the Speed Twin name on two quite different engines. The 5T is the pre-unit twin with a separate gearbox, while the 5TA is the unit-construction 500 with the gearbox built into the crankcase. The two share hardly any engine parts. The 5TA is much closer to the T100 of the same years and to the 3TA, but capacity-related parts still differ from the 350. The engine prefix settles which you have. Tinware and electrical parts also changed over the production run, so the year matters as much as the model when you order these.
What we hold for the 5TA
- Top end: gasket sets for the 500 unit twins
- Engine: valve gear, timing side and crankcase fittings
- Frame: frame fittings and bathtub-era tinware
- Electrics: Lucas lighting and switch parts shared across the range
Rebuilding to original spec?
If you are restoring the rear enclosure or other early-type parts, tell us the year from your engine number and we will check what suits it. The same goes for any part you are unsure about.
