Jawa Babetta Moped Parts & Spares
The Babetta is the 50cc moped Jawa turned out in enormous numbers, and for a lot of people it was the first thing they ever rode. There is very little to it mechanically, which is why the faults that stop one are nearly always the same: ignition, the drive, tyres gone hard with age, or a speedometer that has quietly stopped reading.
Those are the parts we stock. Obsolete Bike Parts keeps a Babetta range beside the rest of our Czech stock, original where it survives and reproduction where it does not, sent worldwide from the Netherlands.
Contact breaker or thyristor?
Settle this before ordering anything electrical. Earlier Babettas run a conventional contact-breaker system; later ones use an electronic thyristor ignition with its own coil, and the two are not interchangeable. Take the flywheel cover off and look. The coil is not the only difference either, because what sits behind the flywheel changed with it, so a part that physically fits is not automatically the right one. Worth checking the voltage while the cover is off, as these mopeds do not follow the system used on the larger Jawa machines.
What we hold
- Ignition — coils for contact-breaker and thyristor systems
- Drive — primary drive belts, pinions, chains and sprockets
- Wheels and tyres — 16-inch wheels and Barum moped tyres
- Brakes — Grimeca brake shoes in pairs
- Exhaust and instruments — pipes and silencers, speedometer assemblies in km/h
Ask about fitment
Babetta specification changed over a long production run and parts were swapped freely between them afterwards. Send us the frame number and a photograph of what you are replacing, and we will confirm it before you order. Tyres are worth measuring rather than assuming, because more than one section was fitted to the 16-inch wheels.
