Brakes

Classic Motorcycle Brake Parts

Drum brakes repay attention more than almost anything else on an old machine. New linings bedded to a trued drum, a brake plate that is not distorted and a cable that moves freely will transform a bike that felt unsafe, and none of it needs modern hardware to work properly.

We hold brake components for the British, Czech and Italian machines in our catalogue, alongside Ferodo and Fibrax lining kits that suit several models at once. Drum sizes and lining patterns changed within a model run, so measure the drum rather than going by the model name.

Drum, disc or conversion?

Most of what sits here is drum: shoes, bonded and riveted linings, brake plates, drums, hubs and the levers and rods that operate them. Later machines and sidecar conversions bring discs, pads and caliper parts into the picture. The two do not mix, and a hub swapped at some point in the bike’s life is common enough that five minutes with a rule is worth it.

Parts groups in this category

  • Friction material — brake shoes and Ferodo and Fibrax lining kits
  • Drums and hubs — brake drums, QD hubs and driving flanges
  • Brake plates — bare and complete plates with their levers and springs
  • Disc brakes — discs, pads and caliper components
  • Operation — rods, adjusters and the cables that pull it all

Measure first

Drum diameter, lining width, and whether the shoes are riveted or bonded: those three answers settle almost every brake question we are asked. Send them with your frame number and we will check before you order. If the drum has been skimmed at some point, say so, because oversize linings and a standard set are not the same purchase.
