Norton Model 50 Parts & Spares
The Model 50 is Norton‘s 350 pushrod single, and for much of its life it was the same motorcycle as the ES2 with a smaller barrel and piston in it. That is worth knowing on the bench, because outside the top end the two have so much in common that a component listed for one is frequently exactly what the other needs.
Obsolete Bike Parts keeps Norton single stock for the range as a whole rather than model by model, which is usually the quickest route to what a 350 rebuild actually takes.
Where the 50 differs from the ES2
Bore and stroke, and everything that follows from them. Piston, rings, barrel and head components are 350 items and will not come out of a 500. Below that line the picture changes: frames, forks, gearboxes, wheels and electrics were shared across the singles and were updated together as the range moved on, so when you are ordering cycle parts the age of the machine matters more than its capacity. The frame number is what tells us that.
Parts groups
- Top end — 350 pistons and rings, valves and guides, head and barrel gaskets
- Bottom end — bearings and bushes, timing and oil system components
- Transmission — gearbox parts, clutch components, sprockets and chains
- Electrics — magneto and dynamo components, lighting, switchgear
- Chassis — brakes, fork parts, cables, fasteners
Correct, or just working?
Both are reasonable aims and they lead to different orders. A machine being rebuilt to ride can take the better modern equivalent; one being put back to period cannot. Say which one you are after and roughly what year the machine is, and we will tell you where the two answers part company rather than quietly choosing for you.
