Cables

Classic Motorcycle Control Cables

Cables decide how a finished machine feels from the saddle. A heavy throttle or a clutch that will not free off is rarely the mechanism itself: it is an inner fraying inside its outer, an outer cut too long for the route it takes, or a nipple that was never the right pattern for that lever.

We stock made-up cables for the models in our catalogue alongside inners, outers, nipples, ferrules and adjusters for anyone who prefers to make one up to length on the bench.

Measure before you order

Changed handlebars, later levers and swapped switchgear all alter the length a cable needs, so a listing that suits your model may still be wrong for your bike. Measure the outer from end cap to end cap along the route it actually follows, with the bars turned to full lock, and note which nipple the lever takes at one end and the mechanism at the other. Send both and there is nothing left to guess at.

What we hold

  • Throttle and air cables — single and twin, for Amal and other carburettor types
  • Clutch cables — model-specific and universal lengths
  • Brake cables — front drum brake cables, inners and outers
  • Instrument drive cables — speedometer and tachometer inner and outer assemblies
  • Cable making parts — inners, outers, nipples, ferrules, adjusters and solder

Not sure which end you need?

A photograph of both ends of the old cable laid next to a tape measure answers the question in one message, and it is quicker than working through a parts list.
