Composite or solid copper?
For several of the BSA twins we list a head gasket both ways, composite and solid copper, under the same part number. Which one suits you depends on how the engine has been built and on the state of the head and barrel faces, and it is a decision worth making before the barrel goes back on rather than after. If you are weighing it up, tell us what the engine has run on until now.
What this category covers
- Cylinder head gaskets — composite and solid copper, listed per engine
- Engine gasket sets — complete sets for one model where they exist
- Joints and washers — base, cover and casing gaskets
Where a set is listed for one model, check its contents against the job in front of you, because a top-end overhaul and a full strip do not need the same joints.
Match the number, not the model name
Engines get swapped, and a fifty-year-old machine is not always carrying the barrel it left the factory with. Where a listing quotes a part number, compare it against the number on the old gasket or the one in your manual. If neither is readable any more, send us the engine number and we will work back from there.
