AJS & Matchless Parts & Spares

AJS and Matchless came out of the same Woolwich factory under AMC, and by the post-war years the two catalogues had grown close enough that a great many parts are shared. That helps when you are hunting, and catches people out when they assume a little too much: the singles and the twins diverge in exactly the places a rebuild depends on.

Obsolete Bike Parts keeps a working stock of AMC components, from the G3 and G80 singles through to the 600 and 650 twins, including gearbox and frame parts that are hard to find loose.

Singles and twins

The heavy singles cover the 350 G3 and the 500 G80 in road, competition and scrambles form, the G3LCS and G80CS among them. The twins run from the 500 G9 through the 600 and 650 machines and on to the 750. Much of the cycle side carries across between them; crankshafts, pistons and timing parts do not.

What we hold

  • Engine: piston and ring sets, valves and guides, crankshafts, timing covers
  • AMC gearbox: kickstart cranks and spindles, clutch plates, clutch and wheel sprockets
  • Frame and cycle parts: swinging-arm frames, footrest rods, brake drums, seats
  • Tinware: oil tanks, silencers and their mountings

Related ranges

AMC also owned Norton from 1953, and the AMC gearbox turns up on both. Electrics and instruments for these machines sit under Lucas and Smiths.

Ask about fitment

AMC part numbers moved around between model years. Send us the engine and frame numbers and we will tell you which version you need.
